Its fashion week and we know all you eco-fashionistas are hitting the runway shows to scope out what's hot and fresh in new eco-wears…But let's pause for a moment to muse, and appreciate, one of Canada's pioneers in ethical fashion - an oldie but a goodie. Myco Anna is a label that’s been delivering unique and chic collage creations for the past 15 years. How is it we managed to overlook this trailblazer in eco-couture?...never-the-less, in true greenspotting fashion we were happy to uncover this under the radar, one-of-a-kind and award-winning Quebecois gem.
Wearing Myco Anna is a unique experience – not only are the clothes an artistic expression of mixing colours and fabrics, but they’re also developed with meticulous attention to detail and high-end couture finishing. The label purchases and reuses thousands of meters of recycled fabric every year to create unique collections that are full of texture and colour. Fundamentally ethical, they keep and use every last cutting and scrap they use. And they use them well… the subtleties of patchwork are used imaginatively with asymmetrical cuts, fitted bodices, innovative collar styles, and trumpet sleeves. Colorful accents are also integrated throughout their collections in recycled inserts and appliqués.
Christiane Garant, owner and artistic director of Myco Anna, may have a law degree, but she’s an artist at heart. A one-time TV fashion consultant, she took her creative strength and adaptability to develop a label that has become a success in a fiercely competitive fashion industry.
