Bambeautiful!
Eco-clothier Lav & Kush take their love for mother earth from mythology to modernity... Lav & Kush takes its roots from the Hindu story of the demigods Lav and Kush, (born to lord Ram and their earth mother, Sita). The twins were raised in the forest and became protectors of the woods, representing music, beauty and strength.
Today's incarnation of Lav & Kush makes good on its mythology - protecting our fair-forests by way of providing sexy, fresh clothing that is kind to mother nature.
Lav & Kush are about lush...
Using luscious fabrics and beautiful textures they strive to deliver a little piece of luxury to today's urban woman. (Dig the fun fabric names designer Angela Saxena concocts: “Bambeautiful” which is a blend of bamboo, organic cotton and spandex; and “Coy Soy” is a blend of soy, organic cotton and spandex.)
The entire clothing line is flirty, feminine and designed to make you feel good... and they really mean that. (Let’s be honest, as much as we love ‘em, all those yummy super soft fabrics used in today's eco-couture can sometimes cling in areas that, um, we just don't want to draw attention to)... Enter Lav & Kush who are integrating ingenious “bloat-friendly” features (strategically placed gathers and detailing) - case and point: smokin’ hot draped-neck tops and whimsical, perfectly tailored ruched-front dresses that help disguise that "just had dinner" tummy. Angela says: "We want women to feel good in everything they wear”. Less couture more carefree…Thank you Lav & Kush!

Embracing today's eco-fashionista, Lav & Kush offer pieces - both classic and modern, which fuse beauty and comfort for everyday wear (and with all those delicious bambeautiful, silk, linen, coy soy and organic cotton fabrics…you’ll wanna wear ‘em every day). The Lav & Kush Spring/Summer 2009 collection draws inspiration from its mythological roots by seamlessly fusing the exotic and rich colors of India with airy, flirty textures to produce a fun and sexy summer look.
Of course, we also love that Lav & Kush is locally manufactured (essential criteria for us here at EcocentricGuide… local artisans represent!). Plus: a percentage of their revenue is directed towards non-profits such as The David Suzuki Foundation and PETA through their Fashion Share Program... (even more love).
Founder and designer Angela Saxena, who spent more than 13 years as a clothing sales rep, attributes much of her success to the fact that other local eco-conscious clothing companies are geared toward either the yoga or higher-end markets, not the middle range that focuses on everyday wear ability. She was able to identify a niche and deliver it in style - and with prices ranging from $46-$180, we can all afford a little piece of luxury!
Lav & Kush is available across North America in over 45 boutiques, or you can find their collection online at: www.mudsharkstreetwear.com.
